With Uneven Growth , the third exhibition in the series Issues in Contemporary Architecture, curator Pedro Gadanho revives and expands a link between popular “homegrown” architectures of necessity and architecture with a capital A to include a new “informal” urban setting in which large areas of the built environment are not made by architects.
The six speculative proposals presented in this catalogue are the result of a productive and dynamic fourteen-month initiative spanning multiple continents and bringing together architects of local knowledge and international experience. The proposals represent an experiment in new, outside-the-box working methods that turn on interdisciplinary knowledge.
Lagos team formed by NLÉ and Zoohaus/Inteligencias Colectivas examined three common challenges – energy supply, water supply, and transportation in order to bridge enormous physical and socioeconomic gaps. The aim was to rethink them as opportunities through new prototypes, urban infrastructures, and local collective intelligence.
